3 Ways to Protect Yourself from Scams and Phishing Attempts

In light of increasing reports of online scams and phishing attempts, here are some reminders about some important cybersecurity practices to protect yourself and our community from fraud.

Key Points to Remember:

  1. Conference Officials Will Never Ask for Money or Gift Cards via Email or Phone: If you receive a message that appears to come from a conference official asking for money, personal information, or gift cards, do not respond. Our conference will never request these items via email, phone, or text. Be cautious of any unexpected requests that seem urgent or suspicious.

  2. Check the Email Handle for Authenticity: Always verify the email address of the sender. Official communications will only come from email addresses associated with our domain (e.g., @okadventist.org). Scammers often use email addresses that look similar to legitimate ones, so take a moment to double-check before responding.

  3. Report Suspicious Communications: If you receive any suspicious emails, texts, or phone calls, please do not click any links or provide personal information. Instead, forward the communication to communication@okadventist.org so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

By staying vigilant and following these steps, we can work together to protect ourselves and our community from online threats. If you ever have any doubts about the legitimacy of a communication, feel free to reach out directly to our office or visit our official website to verify the information.
