Carlos de la Cruz

District Pastor

Carlos Javier De La Cruz serves the Antlers and Hugo SDA churches, bringing a unique perspective as someone who joined the Adventist faith as an adult. Baptized in 2012 at 25, Carlos’s journey to ministry was a transformative one. Encouraged by pastors and guided by providence, he transitioned from studying pre-med and working as an auto mechanic to pursuing theology at Southern Adventist University, despite initial resistance to further schooling. God’s provision, especially through financial aid, confirmed his calling and set him on a path he hasn’t looked back from.

Carlos’s favorite food is Caribbean/Latino cuisine, a passion shared with his wife, Wendy, who he praises as an amazing chef. Married since 2015, Carlos cherishes his family and credits his parents’ support as a major factor in their accomplishments, from multiple moves across states to settling in their first home as homeowners in Antlers, OK.

A central part of Carlos's ministry philosophy stems from his own experience. Having lived “both worlds,” he understands life outside the church and uses his testimony—including his tattoos—to connect with others, showing them what Jesus can do in a person’s life. His faith journey has helped him build meaningful relationships, particularly with young men, guiding them toward a life centered on Christ.

In his free time, Carlos enjoys spending time with his family, lifting weights, reading, watching documentaries, and caring for his property. The Bible verse that defines his ministry is 1 John 2:6: “He who says he abides in Him ought himself so to walk even as He walked.”

Carlos dreams of establishing a robust men’s ministry, empowering men of all ages to become faithful, courageous, and loving leaders in their homes, churches, and communities. Inspired by the mentors who shaped him, he believes in fostering men’s potential to positively impact Adventist churches and schools.

His Adventist Hot Take is clear and bold: “There’s a reason we exist as a Church; live it out and make no apologies for it.”
