71st Constituency Session April 27, 2025

2025 is the 71st Oklahoma Conference Constituency Session!

Inspired by Psalm 85:6 - "Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?" David's heartfelt prayer serves as our guiding inspiration, reminding us of our need to renew our first love and our walk with Jesus Christ.

Why Revival?

David sought God's revival because he understood the profound need for spiritual renewal. In our own lives, we often need a revival of true godliness. This year's constituency session calls for such a revival in Oklahoma to ensure our path aligns with God's divine leading.

A Call to Collective Prayer

In Matthew 18:19, Jesus tells us, "Again, I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven." As we anticipate this year's session in April 2025, we recognize that the cornerstone of our success lies in united prayer. By coming together in prayer, we seek God's revival and guidance.

Session Goals

Our primary goal is to create a space for unified prayer and the selection of leaders for the next four years. Through this collective effort, we believe God will guide us, renewing our hearts and our church.

How Constituency Works

A Constituency Session is an assembly of elected representatives who conduct church business. Our church, part of the global Seventh-day Adventist community, is structured at various levels, each with a defined membership, or constituency. These levels include:

The local church
The local conference
The union conference
The General Conference

Delegates from the Oklahoma Conference's churches come together for this important meeting.

Each church within the Oklahoma Conference sends delegates to the Constituency Session. These delegates must be members of the church they represent. The number of delegates is based on the church's membership. Typically, each church can send one delegate plus an additional delegate for every 50 members or major fraction thereof. For details on your church's delegates, contact your pastor.

In addition, delegates include:

All members of the Conference Executive Committee
All members of the Executive Committee of the Southwestern Union Conference who may be present at any constituency meeting of this conference
All employees holding ministerial, commissioned minister, administrative ministries, missionary, commissioned ministry of teaching credentials or ministerial licenses issued by this conference
Members of the standing Constitution and Bylaws Committee

Delegates at the Constituency Meeting are responsible for:

Electing officers, departmental directors, and the Executive Committee
Adopting or amending the constitution
Appointing members to various committees
Organizing or dissolving churches
Handling other necessary business

One of the key tasks is electing the Executive Committee, which represents the constituents between sessions. These all happen by way of secret ballot.

What is the Organizing Committee?

The Organizing Committee is comprised of representatives from each church and meets before the Constituency Meeting to:

Select and appoint a Nominating Committee
Nominate a standing Constitution and Bylaws Committee
Select and nominate other necessary committees

What is the Nominating Committee?

The Nominating Committee includes 17 members including the Southwestern Union President who serves as the chairperson. Chosen by the Organizing Committee, this committee meets before the Constituency Session to select officers and department directors for the next four years.

Who makes up the Standing Constitution and Bylaws Committee?

Two members from each of the 6 areas, one conference employee and one non-conference employee
The Executive Secretary of the Southwestern Union Conference
The Executive Secretary of the Oklahoma Conference
